Curriculum & Academics

  • Can I choose my own curriculum? Yes. Families enrolled through standard enrollment may independently select their own curriculum, educational programs, co-ops, FLVS Flex ($10 processing per course segment applied), tutors, or other learning resources, provided they meet SSA’s policies and reporting requirements.

  • Do I need to use SSA’s curriculum? No. Families may choose independent enrollment and use their own curriculum. However, families seeking a more structured, streamlined educational experience may prefer SSA’s optional online curriculum programs, which provide organized academic pathways, integrated progress monitoring, and reduced parent administrative workload.

  • What is included if I purchase SSA's online curriculum? SSA curriculum services include initial course setup, course access information, applicable academic recordkeeping, and semester report cards. After access is established, families are responsible for using the instructions, tutorials, help resources, and technical-support options provided with the curriculum.

  • What is “verifiable curriculum”? Verifiable curriculum includes: (1) online programs that track grades, (2) published curricula with grading guidance or services, (3) co-op or teacher-led classes where grades are assigned, or (4) tutor-led courses with a final grade and brief documentation.

Services & Support

  • Does SSA offer help if I need support with homeschooling? Yes. SSA offers optional paid services to support families with curriculum, planning, and student progress.

  • What types of support services are available? Services may include:

    • Curriculum selection guidance

    • Academic planning

    • Progress monitoring

    • Senior year support (graduation, college prep)

    • Consultation sessions

  • Is support included with enrollment? Standard enrollment is a self-service option and does not include ongoing individualized parent or student support. Families receive the Handbook, Welcome Email, Current Families resources, reporting instructions, FAQs, forms, deadlines, and other information needed to manage enrollment requirements independently. Individualized assistance is available through optional Monthly Support Packages, consultations, and other services.

  • How do I get help choosing curriculum? You can request a curriculum consultation service for personalized recommendations based on your student’s needs.

Families receive the Handbook, Welcome Email, Current Families resources, reporting instructions, forms, deadlines, and other information needed to manage enrollment requirements independently. Ongoing individualized email or text support requires an applicable support service.

  • Why are there additional fees for services and support? SSA is designed as a low-cost private school where families only pay for the services they need. Additional support services require time and individualized attention from administrators. SSA is directed by Dr. Chrysalis Wright, a developmental psychologist with over 17 years of homeschooling experience who also works full time and homeschools her own children. Providing personalized support takes time away from professional and family responsibilities, so these services are offered as optional, fee-based support.
