Students & Families

FLVS: SSHA is affiliated with Florida Virtual School (FLVS). This means that students enrolled with SSHA can take classes using the FLVS Flex option if they would like. Using FLVS, students can select any courses at their grade level that they are interested in. If you are interested in utilizing the FLVS Flex option for courses, please visit the FLVS website and set up an account. You will then select private school, Orange County, Sunshine State Homeschool Academy. You will then request the course(s) your student is interested in. After making the request with FLVS, please make sure to send an email to SSHA@mail.com so that we are aware of the course selection. SSHA will then verify enrollment and FLVS takes it from there.

Course Accommodations: If your student has been diagnosed with a disability, has an IEP or 504 plan or other documentation to verify a disability, please keep this information in your records. SSHA does not need this information but it may be requested when reviewing completed courses for graduation requirements. Please tailor your students’ education to for their ability, make accommodations for your student as recommended, and allow your student to learn in the best way that fits their needs and interests.

Art Festival: SSHA students will have an opportunity to display their creative works in an art festival, which is competitive for high school students. You will be provided additional information upon enrollment.

Dual Enrollment: SSHA is not able to develop articulation agreements with local colleges for dual enrollment purposes. If your student is interested in participating in dual enrollment, we advise that you withdraw from SSHA and register your student as a homeschooled student in your county. Then, you will be able to participate in dual enrollment as a homeschooled student. Dual enrollment is a free program and is a great starting point for those headed to college. After withdrawing from SSHA, you are welcome to remain a member of our sister group for planning social and educational events as well as any academic extracurricular activities you have joined or want to get involved with. We will simply update your status from a private school student to a homeschooled student. We hate to say goodbye!

Bright Futures: SSHA does not participate in the Bright Futures program. If your student is interested in applying for Bright Futures, we advise that you withdraw from SSHA and register your student as a student in your county. To participate in the program, your student must have been in a regular private or public-school program or registered with the county as a student, for at least one year prior to registering for Bright Futures. If this is your goal, you will need to withdraw your student from SSHA after their Sophomore (10th grade) year of High School and then register as a homeschooled student with your county. After withdrawing from SSHA, you are welcome to remain a member of our sister group for planning social and educational events as well as any academic extracurricular activities you have joined or want to get involved with. We will simply update your status from a private school student to a homeschooled student. We hate to say goodbye!

College Admission: In most cases, students from SSHA have no problem with college admission. We advise, however, that you contact your institution of choice to determine their entrance requirements and what is needed to enter the institution in advance. We recommend that you do this during your student's Freshman (9th grade) year in High School. Note that SSHA is a private school and that FLDOE does not accredit any private school. As such, there may be some difficulties when seeking college admission at some institutions. We are not able to predict which institutions will be difficult and which ones will recognize SSHA for what it is.
